Pearl Jam Going Back in Studio to Finish Album
It has been close to four years since Pearl Jam last released an album. Recording a follow-up, guitarist Mike McCready revealed in a recent Billboard interview, began roughly two years ago, but in 2012, the band decided to take a hiatus. Now, they’re going back to finish up the album.
About Pearl Jam’s status on the project, McCready said to the magazine: "We have seven songs that are already done, I think. We have to sit down and analyze them and think about them again."
Demos from 2012 are also being revisited once the band gets back in the studio. Eddie Vedder additionally put together some new material during the time the band was on break. McCready explained: "We're going to go in and revisit some demos we did about a year ago and also some new stuff that Ed's been working on. That's coming up pretty soon. I'm stoked. I'm ready to get back in with those guys again."
The in-progress album distantly follows 2009’s Backspacer. After that album dropped in September that year, Pearl Jam spent extensive time on the road. Even though 2013 holds more studio time, the band still has plenty of live dates. By spring, they are doing a short South American tour, and on July 19, they are playing at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The date is the quickest performance to sell out in the stadium’s history. Additionally, although no dates have been announced, Pearl Jam is doing a U.S. tour in the fall.
