After two successful singles, One Direction selected “Midnight Memories” as a follow up. One Direction Select “Midnight Memories” as Third Album Single

One Direction can’t stop making the hits, can they? In the U.S., they’ve had three No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart – a record for any group since 1967. Their singles don’t do too bad, either, with “Best Song Ever” from last album Midnight Memories rising to No. 2 on the Hot 100. Now as the band continues to see success, they announced a new single this weekend.

Niall Horan hinted at the news on Twitter by posting: “Here is the Payno with some BIG news for you all!”

A link accompanying the text takes you to a video of Liam Payne talking about their third single – the title track that he and Louis Tomlinson had a hand in writing. He said: “‘Midnight Memories’ is going to be our new single, which is actually one of the songs I wrote with Louis. It’s all about the midnight memories, everyone’s got them. I hope you enjoy it.”

One Direction went down a harder, more rock-influenced path with Midnight, which opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and the U.K. Album charts. In the U.S. alone, the album sold over 1 million copies in five weeks.

This new song follows “Best Song Ever” and “Story of My Life,” the latter of which charted at No. 6 in the U.S.
