"Nyc Beat" Video Review

Armand Van Helden needs no introduction. One of House music's most influential artists with stacks of big time releases under his belt. From old skool classics such as 'Witch Doktor' and 'The Funk Phenomena' through to 'You Don't Know Me', 'Koochy' and 'My, My, My' Armand has always thrilled dancefloors with his constant shift in musical direction. Teaming up again with Norman Cook's Southern Fried label Mr Van Helden revisits the late 80's with a monster track of hip-hop and streetdance influences. The mix of old skool and new wave, or should that be new rave, works exceptionally well and this is another piece of infectious pop house.

There is a top remix package from MSTRKRFT, Nathan Detroit and Emperor Machine putting the track through their electro processors.

Already picked up by BBC Radio1, this is the second release from the forthcoming album 'Ghettoblaster' which sees a return to dance music's heyday. Indeed as Armand puts it: 'On this album I was going for a retro throwback 1985-89 soul-up-tempo urban type sound. Chicago meets Miami meets New York City kind of thing. Or to put it differently, house meets freestyle meets hip-house meets club meets new wave'. Right!
