New Music Releases: October 30, 2012
Some weeks seem to be jam-packed with awesome new albums but this isn’t one of them. Still, there are some good selections depending on what you’re looking for. Check out some of the most notable releases coming out this week.
Talking Book (Macy Gray) – It’s been 40 years since Stevie Wonder first put out this album and Macy Gray is paying tribute by covering the groundbreaking effort which features hits including “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” and “Superstition.” Of course, in stark contrast to Wonder’s smooth vocals, Gray brings a raspy edginess to the highly memorable tracks.
Merry Christmas, Baby (Rod Stewart) – It’s pretty unbelievable but in his more than five decades in the business, the British icon has not released a holiday album. Fortunately, after waiting so long, he is doing it right by teaming up with Grammy Award-winning producer, David Foster. The collection of classic songs include duets with Mary J. Blige, Cee Lo Green and Michael Bublé.
Psychedelic Pill (Neil Young, Crazy Horse) – Young is releasing his 35th studio album which is absolutely staggering. This will, however, mark the second collaboration with Crazy Horse after their original work and tour in 2003 and 2004. There are less than 10 tracks but the album offers almost 90 minutes of music.
Cee Lo's Magic Moment (Cee Lo Green) – Most holiday albums have the same kind of thing going on with the exception of who is singing but it’s a safe bet to assume that this one will definitely have its own flavor. The Voice judge promises that listeners can expect a "soulful take on a host of Christmas classics" including "Silent Night," "The Christmas Song," "This Christmas," "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch" and "White Christmas." The effort also includes collaborations with Rod Stewart, B.o.B. and Straight No Chaser.
