New Mariah Carey Album Out by May, Single This Week
Last summer, Mariah Carey’s The Art of Letting Go was supposed to drop, but the singer delayed the release indefinitely. Now months later, the singer put out a trailer not only announcing the new release date but also the latest single.
The nearly two-minute trailer ultimately reveals that Art comes out on May 6, but leading up to that is footage highlighting her achievements and abilities, from awards and chart ranks to her impressive vocal range. Although you wouldn’t think Carey would have to pull such a move at this point, singles for The Art of Letting Go have been spotty, with the latest not even making it onto the Billboard Hot 100. The only bona fide hit was Miguel collaboration “#Beautiful.”
Playing in the background is her latest single, “You’re Mine (Eternal),” which comes out this week on February 12.
For a while, the singer hadn’t explained why she delayed the release, but in an interview on Bravo in December 2013, she said she wanted people to know what she has been through and to consider it her last album. She explained at the time: “I really need people to understand what I’ve been through since [the injury], and if this were to be my last album, people would hear everything that they needed to hear, so I just needed to make that arc really clear.”
