Neil Young Releases 'A Treasure'
Neil Young has recently released a new album called A Treasure. The album is an archival release of a dozen country songs drawn from the mid eighties era when he toured with his eight piece band called "The International Harvesters". Included on the CD are six previously unreleased songs including: "Let Your Fingers Do the Walking", "Amber Jean" celebrating the birth of a daughter, a song about spiritual wisdom "Nothing is Perfect" and "Grey Riders", an old classic.
The album was originally released as a tribute to the late Ben Keith, the pedal steel guitarist with Neil Young's band for over 40 years. Sadly, Ben died in July 2010.
In a recent interview, Neil Young talked about his eight piece band, saying that they are "the greatest musicians ever that I played with". He even went further to praise their accomplishments, stating that they also should be in the Hall of Fame. Earlier in 2010 his friend and band-mate, Ben Keith, said that this record was "a treasure". Immediately Neil then knew that was the title for the next album.
Looking further down the track, Young said that A Treasure will not be the only project of this type. Similar releases are planned along with video material to enhance the music of those great past times. There is video footage available which adds to the 1984-85 tour in support of the country album at the time, and the clips have been shot by fans and posted on the Internet. Neil has taken these archives and matched the vocals with the mouth movements (syncing) giving fans an even more complete experience of yesteryear.
He said, "Now I have all these videos of things I did a long time ago...that I will sync up with my archival studio tracks and take people on a trip back there, where it was happening. There's something really cool about that."
