Ne-Yo has high expectations for his upcoming studio release, R.E.D. First is the title. First, in speaking with Rolling Stone at the recent MTV Video Music Awards, he revealed that the acronym means “Realizing Every Dream.” From here, he called the release a “perfect blend of R&B music and pop music combined.”

R.E.D. is being produced by Stargate and NoI.D. Like other R&B and pop performers, Ne-Yo is including collaborations on the upcoming release, including Diddy and Fabulous. The two artists appear alongside Ne-Yo on “Should Be You,” which is expected to drop over the next few weeks.

Talking more about collaborations, he said: "I've worked with Kanye, [but] never had the opportunity to do that great song that I know is possible, same thing with Jay. I'm a huge fan of Nicki Minaj, I think that we can do something great on or off . . . scratch that, don't scratch that."

What would you like R.E.D. to sound like? Who do you think Ne-Yo should collaborate with?

Along with this upcoming album, Ne-Yo has begun branching out into film in recent years. But, don’t count on him to transition from singer to actor, much like Justin Timberlake. Music remains his primary focus. For instance, he was asked to play Martin Luther King, Jr. for an upcoming production; however, part of the preparation involved gaining 30 pounds. Because of this, the singer declined the role. Aside from this, Ne-Yo has had roles in Red Tails and Battle: Los Angeles.
