Nas Calls New Album “Next Chapter” in His Writing
With his last album Life is Good, Nas scored a No. 1 hit on the Billboard charts, and roughly a year later, he already has a follow-up planned.
An interview with the Huffington Post reveals that while Life is Good revived the traditional hip-hop album, the follow-up is more of a new direction for the rapper’s writing.
During the interview, Nas touches on his other projects: clothing line HSTRY, working on Hennessy’s “White Rabbit” campaign, and putting together a deluxe edition and concert for the 20th anniversary of Illmatic.
But, in talking about his upcoming release, he explained: “It’s the next chapter in myself as a writer. I’m really excited about every new leaf I turn. Every new endeavor. I’m excited about that and all the potential that comes with everything new that I do. And all my ideas can come to fruition. And that excites me, because there’s no limits to what I can do, in terms of trying to be an inspiration. I just want to do well for the listeners out there. Do well for the whole genre.”
A big drawing point is a collaboration with Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake, called “Sinatra in the Sand.” Although he mentioned the title is somewhat explanatory, he went onto talk about working with the two artists: “Excitement to work and be in the place that we’re all are at, musically. Those are the guys who lasted the test of time, and those guys are at the top of their game.”
