Unk - Walk It Out Song Review

In the ever-growing canon of 06 rap dances, the Walk It Out is perhaps the least high-minded. It's an exaggerated, swiveling knee jerk at both legs coupled with flailing arms (in whatever manner one pleases), moving from left to right and back again. Walking but going nowhere, is the essence. Conceptually, this sounds incredibly lazy, but at full-speed, it's exhilarating, an updated pop-and-lock. UNK, or DJ UNK as he's known in Atlanta, has concocted this, yet another sweaty, skittering song almost entirely about dancing. There's so little going on, from DJ Montay's vacillating high-end keyboards to UNK's grade-school bullshit ("It's on once again, Patron once again") that without an accompanying dance, this song is less than a blip. Creating music strictly to start a foxtrot frenzy is old as the day is long; but as hip-hop extends itself from Chicken Noodle Soup to the Toe Wop and hopefully back, at some point, to the Harlem Shake, we're stuck walking, not running, through the motions.
