Solaa ft Ladi6 - Sylphlike Song Review
Retro auto-features aside, Kiwi outfit Solaa is starting to make waves amongst the hip hop fans of both the native NZ and, more recently, Australia. They're about to support Shapeshifter on a national tour, and their album, Steps In Time, is beginning to do the rounds. It'd be cool to say that all the guests on the albums are names synonymous with the hip hop scene...they probably are in NZ.
Sylphlike feat. Ladi6 recalls the work of outfits like nu-jazz exponents Skalpel, set adrift with sultry vocals and a brass-section that adds, rather than distracts, from the vocal line. Sylphlike gets the groove back down to a funk, and the female vocals really blend into the beats, but take prominence a bit too much (i.e. sound loud over the top of a really nice track). Other than that, it's a nice way to begin closing out the record.
