Thanks again to the 1990s and Jay-Z (or was it Puff Daddy?) for reclaiming shiny materialistic excess, so that dudes like Rich Boy can comfortably shout "Get money! NEW money!" and no one finds it gauche. And anyway, this is post-capitalist capitalism: New Money from the alternate economy of D-boys, positioning the 21-year-old Alabaman Rich Boy as a modern-day Johnny Kemp-- "just got paid/ it`s Friday night"-- with this track about the "fuck yeah" of the first paycheck and capital-b Balling. There`s no room for hoe-love, so he says, probably because he`s too busy caressing his just-bought Cadillac, which he mentions a jillion times: "throw some Ds on that bitch!" (translation: outfit that vehicle with Dayton rims.)
Rich Boy`s staccato flow`s exhilarated, excitable, like he was served the universe, just dropped the top, and is currently rapping into the heavens. Living large. Polow da Don, producer, consistently makes beats that sound like summer exploding (cf. his remix of Mya`s "Fallen"); here, his gleaming synths and glorious hook underscore the lyrics` over-the-top swagger: "When we hit the club I`ma hit them draws/ And that`s all/ Every freak should have a picture of my dick/ on they walls." An inflated, absurd eye-roller-- but then again, with that beat and hook, this freak might consider it.
