Mattafix - Living Darfur Song Review
"Living Darfur" (also known as "Living") is the first single from Mattafix's forthcoming album Rhythm and Hymns, released in 2007.
The beginning of the song sounds similar to a part of Madonna's song "Mother and Father", taken from her 2004 release American Life.
If the idea of a pop video about mass genocide is horrific, that many people weren't even aware of the situation in Darfur till George Clooney took it on is even worse. The argument for celebrities taking on causes is right there. Forget global news and its 'news values': you'll learn more about the world following your favourite conscientious A-list celeb, particularly now it seems they've raised their game and have transcended promoting causes as a career move to actually making a bit of a difference.
The music video, funded by Mick Jagger and set in a refugee camp, aims to raise awareness for Darfur and catch the attention of the United Nations. It was released on 16 September 2007, which is "Global Day for Darfur". The video was shot in Eastern Chad on the border of Darfur. The video also features Matt Damon.
