Maino feat Lil Kim - Stomp Song Review
The stormy streets of Brooklyn are paved with razor-edge characters. The borough coined as the official breeding ground for through-bred artists has created a lyrical Brooklynite determined to HUSTLE HARD. MAINO, a vocal monster and the reflection of modern day crack-music is the game`s latest favorite who beams the HUSTLE HARD emblem with a blinding bling-bling effect. Active on the mixtape circuit, and just as uncut on raw footage such as Smack DVD…MAINO, the HUSTLE HARD Street Executive Officer has gained notoriety among big name artists and label executives sitting at the forefront of the industry.
As a man with real street character, MAINO`S music reflects a shade of life that renders gray. Wholeheartedly, over gut-wrenching beats his story comes off so personal and point blank. Some critics say his lyrics brand an "I don't give a fuck" attitude. Some feel his music is a repeat of every hood cat floating over troubled waters. However, MAINO breathes a narrative that many men can`t tell, because in all actuality they never sailed over the turbulent waves of the streets.
A big light-big city dream for most, rapping however was on the lower side of the totem pole for MAINO. "It was hard for me to swallow the pill and become a rapper," MAINO notes with his eyes low. Rapping among the best was at a distance for the man heavily immersed in the drug sector of the heat. At one point he was so engulfed in the fire that he couldn`t see pass the smoke, which led to a long stretch of hell in the system. However, prison served as a fuel injector for MAINO and his music. The stint guided him for the better. Recollecting over the days when he didn`t get a kite from anyone, the beefs, and the fights, MAINO feels that his experiences built character.
MAINO, went in, came out, and infiltrated the music industry. With his history, jail is a sheer reminder of reality. Listening to artists now, one would believe they were born with golden-encrusted Tyco trucks with 24 inch rims, and baby chains with platinum Jesus pieces. "I'm not going to speak of my wins without speaking on my losses," MAINO shifts. In songs like "My Life," and "My Hood," (not featured on the album) he touches upon topics such as; domestic violence between him and his baby-mother, to his mothers' crack problem, and fathers' dope addiction.
A real hustler doesn't stick to one way of baking bread. Instead, a real hustler expands their grind to include other ways of increasing their financial bracket. For MAINO, rapping is that new bracket. As the head of his own label, HUSTLE HARD ENTERTAINMENT (an independent label signed under Universal Records), which consists of; grooming new artists, producing music, directing videos, and branding his own label in fashion, MAINO is set to show the game how to HUSTLE HARD.
Simply, MAINO, the artist credits up-and-coming as-well-as pioneer DJs such as DJ Kay Slay, DJ Radio, DJ Chubby Chub, Sickamore, and others for rotating his music. "Rumors," the live-all, tell-all track that gained him the attention from the streets to award shows, and from A&R's to well-known artists, was his distinguishing mark among an extremely over-saturated mixtape market. However, MAINO manages to hold court. He plans to release his highly anticipated album early next year. Peep his latest feature on the Lil' Kim's album called "Stomp."
