Missy Elliot and Timbaland Talk about Posthumous Aaliyah Album

The Hip Hop veterans revealed that they have not been contacted for advice by the project's executive producer Drake or anyone else. Missy Elliot and Timbaland Talk about Posthumous Aaliyah Album

Missy Elliot and Timbaland made an appearance at New York's Hot 97 radio station earlier this week and talked about circulating rumours that a Drake-produced Aaliyah album is currently in the pipeline.

Both the artists' opinions on this controversial subject matter a great deal because they played a major part in Aaliyah's career and were also close friends of the late singer. However, neither of them has been contacted to discuss the fine points of the project, they revealed.

"No call has been made to me," Elliot said before adding that even if Drake or anyone else contacts him for a word, she would not get involved with the album until Aaliyah's family give her the permission to do so.

"I have to respect her family. Until they come and say they're ready to do an Aaliyah album, I don't wanna get into that," the "Get Ur Freak On" rapper said.

Timbaland, on the other hand, said that it would be very difficult for him emotionally to just listen to her music, so getting involved with the project is out of the question.

"For me, I have a hard time just listening to her music. So to sit there and do some music?" the veteran music man said.

Moreover, Elliot identified another negative point in the project. She said that the stuff Aaliyah chose not to release during her life could also be a result of issues with their quality. Hence, to put them out now after her death could be a disobedience of her wishes.

"We're not talking about records that were put out, we're talking about songs that are unfinished. We don't know her reasoning for not putting her records out. She might have felt that that wasn't her best work," she revealed.

Some people (including DMX) have recently criticised Drake for his over-obsession with Aaliyah, with their point being that the Canadian was nowhere near starting his career when the late-R&B singer had finished hers. While Elliot and Timbaland may not agree with Drake's project, they defended his fascination for Aaliyah.

Elliot said: "A lot of people may have never met Michael Jackson, but they still may feel some kind of connection to him."
