Miley Cyrus Determines “Adore You” As Next Single
Miley Cyrus already scored two major hits this past year: “We Can’t Stop” peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and “Wrecking Ball” went to No. 1, all while setting a Vevo record. Considering the success of Bangerz, Cyrus’ first post-Hannah Montana album, a third single now seems necessary.
Since Bangerz was released back in October, Cyrus dithered between two tracks for a third single: “SMS (Bangerz),” her collaboration with Britney Spears that was partially leaked earlier this year, and ballad “Adore You.” According to a recent statement made by Cyrus, she selected the latter.
After talking about her decision between the two songs, she explained her choice of “Adore You”: "But also, 'Adore You' is in the top 10 right now of iTunes, which I didn't really expect, so that's really cool too."
“Adore You” is scheduled to officially drop on January 6, 2014. There’s no word what she’ll do for a video.
After first “mature” release Can’t Be Tamed, Cyrus took a different path with Bangerz, enlisting help from Mike WiLL Made It to create a “dirty south hip-hop” sound of trap, pop, and country fused together. And, unlike its predecessor, which fans met lukewarmly, the controversy around Bangerz resulted in a bona fide hit for Cyrus. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 270,000 copies and has since gone gold. Single “Wrecking Ball,” as well, set a record as the most-viewed video in a 24-hour time span.
