Michael Hutchence Biopic is in the Works
It’s hard to believe but it has been 15 years since Michael Hutchence was found dead in a hotel room in Sydney. The native Australian was known best for being the lead singer of INXS and his death was extremely shocking and upsetting to his fans.
Now, there’s word that a biopic about his life is in the works but screenwriter, Bobby Galinsky (Flatliners) admits that “it’s a big task.” Fortunately, he will have a good foundation to build upon since he will be basing the film on a book written by Hutchence’s mother and sister.
His ambitious goal is to follow in the footsteps of biographical films like Ray and Walk the Line but some would argue that it will be hard to compare the allure of movies about Ray Charles and Johnny Cash with the story of Hutchence’s life.
Galinsky plans to focus on "what drove him, what were his demons, what were his loves.” He feels that bringing that to audiences is far more interesting that simply focusing on “the persona that people saw on stage for a couple of hours."
It could be a really interesting film since INXS became a huge phenomenon with hits including “Need You Tonight” and “Devil Inside” in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He also had some pretty high profile romances with Kylie Minogue and Paula Yates, the mother of his daughter.
After Hutchence was found, it was ruled that the 37-year-old died as a result of suffocation by hanging while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
INXS announced their retirement this month after 35 years of making music.
