Metric Announces 'Synthetica' Album Details
Metric have announced full details on their new studio album, Synthetica.
The album, set for release on June 12, will be the Canadian band's 5th album and first since 2008's Fantasies.
Lead singer Emily Haines says the album "sounds like the culmination of everything we have done. We've always had a sound in our heads that we hoped to realize and we finally heard it coming back out of the speakers this time."
Guitarist James Shaw also mentioned that glam rocker Gary Glitter inspired the band's forthcoming single "Youth Without Youth." "I've always wanted to do a song with the Gary Glitter beat," Shaw mentioned.
The album will be self-released on their own Metric Music International label, with partners including Mom + Pop in the U.S., Universal Music in Canada, and Arts & Crafts in Mexico.
The album artwork is by Toronto-based photographer and designer Justin Broadbent. "We wanted the artwork for Synthetica to be thought-provoking and a little disorienting, an optical illusion which asks you to stop or a moment ad consider what you are looking at," Haines told Spinner. "We were very influenced by images from the radical architecture movement of the 1960s, and Justin's representation of the natural world seen through a physically impossible window - or is it a stage? - struck us immediately as the right cover for this album."
The band will play Lollapalooza, Osehaga, and Sasquatch this summer, but expect more dates to be announced. See the album's full tracklist below.
