Mariah Carey Tweets Upcoming Album Release Date
With social media status updates dating back a year, the progress of Mariah Carey’s album has been slow and somewhat calculated. After pictures of the singer in the studio with Jermaine Dupri, supposed comeback single “Triumph,” featuring Rick Ross and Meek Mill, didn’t offer the chart performance that Carey is accustomed to; right now, there’s no word if this track will appear on her upcoming effort. Instead, last month, “#Beautiful,” featuring R&B singer Miguel, came out and started the gradual launch of Carey’s 13th studio album.
At the end of this week, Carey added one more tidbit through social media – the album’s release date. She tweeted: "The New Era Begins.. 7/23 #MC723."
Right now, no title has been revealed for the follow-up to 2009’s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.
What is just as significant for the “Obsessed” singer recently is her departure from American Idol, where she served just one season as a judge. With celebrity judges Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban and mainstay Randy Jackson on the panel, Idol saw its ratings drop as salaries went up, with minimal buzz around its singers and quarrels between the two female panelists receiving the most press. Instead, television watchers were more interested in The Voice.
Instead, with a tweet from her publicist announcing the singer’s plans next weekend, Carey appears headed for a tour to support her upcoming album, although no official dates have been listed.
