Mariah Carey Explains Why She Delayed ‘The Art of Letting Go’
Back in June, Mariah Carey announced she was delaying album The Art of Letting Go. The album still does not have a release date, and based on a recent interview Carey did with Bravo, more changes are being made – but it will drop at some point in 2014.
After touching on Whitney Houston and having more children, the “#Beautiful” singer implied The Art of Letting Go could be her last album – hence why she’s taking her time: “I really need people to understand what I’ve been through since [the injury], and if this were to be my last album, people would hear everything that they needed to hear, so I just needed to make that arc really clear.”
As well, three more songs have been added to the release, including a collaboration. Although the singer didn’t divulge any names, she explained that she already collaborated with the artist – but the track was never released as a single. In response, she said: “I don’t want to give it away ’cause the true fans will know.”
Three singles have already been released from The Art of Letting Go: “Triumphant (Get ‘Em)” in 2012, “#Beautiful” earlier in 2013, and “The Art of Letting Go.” Success, however, has been varied. While “#Beautiful” cracked the top 20, “The Art of Letting Go,” released through Facebook first rather than radio, has only made it up to No. 19 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 and No. 46 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Song Songs charts so far.
