Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds Lyric Sheet Sells at Auction for £145,000
The Beatles are considered by many to be the best band that ever existed. Though this is of course an issue of personal taste, their range of influence can be heard in the work of many artists today, and they are probably the most influential band of all time. They were the first popular music band to incorporate musical styles from other cultures.
At an auction in Los Angles, the original lyric sheet to the song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, hand written by John Lennon has sold for 145,000. The song originally appeared on the Beatles album, Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band. Many people consider this album to be one of their greatest works.
Despite John Lennon refuting claims that the song is about LSD, many fans believed that the song was written in praise of the drug, especially as the drugs initials, LSD, are contained within the title of the song.
In 2007 however, Lucy Vodden revealed that the song was actually written about her.
The auction bid has underlined the power and influence of the Beatles which is clearly still alive and kicking. Music memorabilia collectors will pay incredible amounts of money to own a little bit of the most influential band of all time.
Many talented people point to the fab four as their inspiration, and their work lives on in today and yesteryears artists melodies and music.
