Lola Monroe Releases New Song, "Dark Red Lipstick"

Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets. So she proves on her new song, the unapologetically materialistic “Dark Red Lipstick.”

Monroe is mostly known for her highly successful career as a video vixen and urban pin-up girl, thanks to her sinfully curvaceous body and gorgeous face. With the single-worthy “Dark Red Lipstick,” she is hoping fans cast her in a new light: rapper.

The Taylor Gang signee combines a thug’s explicit tongue, a fashionista’s penchant for labels and TLC’s “No Scrubs” melody in the song, creating a trifecta of rap glam that only someone who has had access to both sides of the hip-hop experience – rappers and vixens – can accomplish.

Her lyrics are nothing to sneeze at, either. One may have assumed that Monroe’s pretty face is what got her in the door, or that it overshadows her verses, but iit doesn't; instead, she owns her beauty, using it to unabashedly bolster what she is about.

“Dark red lipstick on/Six-inch pumps/I’m about to do me tonight,” Monroe raps in the chorus. “Sittin’ in the passenger side/Let my best friend drive/We on one, ‘bout to get right.”

Despite the fact that she sounds a tad bit like another rap peer (You know, the one that wears the pink wig and raps about stupid hoes?) it’s nice to add another female voice to the male-dominated hip-hop roster. Get ‘em, Lola.
