Lil Wayne Explains Pulling Nicki Minaj from Summer Jam
Nicki Minaj was pulled from Hot 97’s Summer Jam concert earlier this month leaving fans puzzled about what happened. Finally, Lil Wayne has broken his silence to explain the decision to pull her from the lineup.
Apparently, one of the New York radio station’s DJs said something insulting about Minaj’s hit “Starships” in front of the crowd and Weezy felt that the comment went too far, especially because he feels that, as a woman, she deserved more respect. He actually pulled all of the Young Money artists including DJ Khaled.
He told MTV: "That's a female; first and foremost Nicki Minaj is a female. I don't know what anyone else believes, but I believe females deserve the ultimate respect at all times no matter, when or where or how. As soon as she called me and told me she felt disrespected, I just declined everything. I pulled her from the show because ... no person that works with me will be disrespected in my presence as long as I'm on this planet. I expect the red carpet, in her manner; the pink carpet should be laid out for her. It's just an executive move, no salt, no bad feelings, no hard feelings. I feel like a woman should be respected at all times, therefore I made the right decision."
Right after the incident, Lil Wayne tweeted: "Young Money ain't doing summer jam." It was followed by a tweet from Minaj saying: "I go above and beyond for my fans. But won't ever go against Wayne's word. What he says, goes."
Minaj really summed up the situation when she said: “this was not about 2,000 people that [Rosenberg] was talking to. This was streaming to the world. That stream was posted on my website. Everybody is grown enough to keep their opinions to their self. When you disrespect Nicki Minaj, you're disrespecting my fans. When you invite somebody to your home, you treat somebody with respect."
Agreed. It’s actually pretty shocking that a DJ would say anything insulting about an artist who is about to perform at their event. Truthfully, Hot 97 might need to reevaluate their roster.
