Nerina Pallot has a fabulous voice. Not content with providing us with chart-topping singles like 'Everybody's Going To War' and 'Sophia', she now takes the pop route more so with latest release 'Learning To Breathe' where, more than ever before, Pallot moves into the mainstream to get her musical kicks.
There's no denying Pallot's a great singer, but this single is a slight disappointment in places. Whilst valid comparisons to Sixpence None The Richer give you a bit more of an idea about what direction this song heads in, there are certain points in the song where the melody is literally the same as in 'Sophia'.
This is simply something Pallot should have thought about before putting voice to microphone. It's really obvious and noticeable, and it could have been easily fixed. Having said all that, Pallot's still managed to produce a wonderful song that surpasses much of the dross other female singers are coming out with at the moment.
