Lady Gaga Debuts Seven ‘ARTPOP’ Songs at iTunes Festival
Save for a few leaks, like “Burqa,” and an official single, not much is truly known about Lady Gaga’s upcoming third album ARTPOP. The release scheduled to drop on November 11, to a certain extent, has been carefully guarded, or promoted with vague statements about being a “reverse Warhol” experience.
That all changed this past weekend, however. As one of the performers for the iTunes Festival, the “Applause” singer came on stage at London’s Roundhouse and started her set with a track called “Aura.” According to reports from NME, this wasn’t a set of hits.
From here and amidst several costume changes, Gaga went through “MANiCure,” “ARTPOP,” “Jewels & Drugs,” featuring Twista and Too $hort, “Sex Dreams,” “Swine,” and “I Wanna Be With You.” Reports characterize the tracks as covering a range of sounds: from EDM (likely from collaborating with Zedd) to ballads to hip-hop.
The end of the evening finished with “Applause.”
What was particularly interesting was a statement the singer made. At one point during the evening, she said she wants to "set herself free from the box of pop music."
Do you think ARTPOP, based on early impressions, might be doing just that?
As a preview to the iTunes Festival over the past week, Gaga tweeted a link to a video of her live performance of “Swine” from rehearsals. The track is expected to be her next single, although a release date hasn’t yet been revealed.
