"La Llorona" Video Review
"La Llorona", the title of this new Beirut single translates to "the weeping woman" and relates to a legend about a woman who killed her children then herself after she was rejected by a man. She spends her time as a weeping ghost, wandering in search of the kids.
"La Llorona," as it's title makes clear, is more Spanish-leaning than any of Beirut's past work, featuring prominent mariachi horns. That would be thanks to the 19-piece Jimenez Band who helped Condon cut his upcoming EP, "March of the Zapotec".
The video for "La Llorona" by animator Owen Cook features a dog wondering through a pastel watercolor landscape that features a large band, a walled city, and a graveyard.
