Kris Allen is Writing and Recording Songs for a Third Album in Nashville
For many, Kris Allen falls in that group of American Idol winners whose careers never reached their full potential. But while Allen has less visibility these days than runner-up Adam Lambert, he continues to make new music – including, according to a report from USA Today, a third album that’s being recorded in Nashville.
Working in Charlie Peacock’s recording studio, Allen hooked up with the producer through email. While he arrived with songs already written, the former AI first-place finisher says that working with Peacock gave him a new, improved perspective and opened the door to working with other singers and songwriters, including Mike Donahey from Tenth Avenue North, Cindy Morgan, and K.S. Rhoads. Peacock said in the piece: "We're trying to give Kris a different experience, experimenting, playing in the sandbox. For right now, it's just playing and seeing what you can come up with."
So far, four or five tracks have been recorded. More are expected to get put together over the next month. As of right now, a release date or title hasn’t been set, but it has been reported the album should come out at some point in 2014.
This upcoming release follows Thank You Camellia, which came out in 2012. During that year, when Allen’s contract expired with 19 Management, he left and has since gone with Pearl Group Entertainment. Additionally, he has since parted ways with label RCA.
