Kreayshawn Announces Debut Album Release
A lot can happen in one year. Since the release of Kreayshawn's "Gucci Gucci" video last year, which has almost 33 million YouTube hits, the California rapper caught the attention of several record labels and quickly signed with Columbia Records. An MTV Video Music Award nomination followed, and she hasn't even released her debut album yet. Until now.
Kreayshawn, born Natassia Gail Zolot, will release Somethin Bout Kreay this summer. A video for the album's lead single "Breakfast," featuring 2 Chainz, is expected to drop next month. "It's about syrup," she told Pitchfork at SXSW.
The album will feature production by German DJ Boysz Noize, "Gucci Gucci" helmer DJ Two Stacks, and Diplo. "I know Diplo knows a lot about underground music culture... He was one of the people to put me onto music like that when I used to listen to the Mad Decent Mixes. It was like, 'Oh, he knows what I want.'"
As she had told Rolling Stone last year, she doesn't want to be pigeonholed by her breakout hit, but, rather, she aims to cover a broad range of genres on her debut. "A lot of it is like different genres and forces, from Brazilian-type music to Indian freestyle to techno-type music. There's everything."
