"Knights Of Cydonia" Video Review
With a Number One album in the UK for their ‘Black Holes and Revelations’ album and a Top Ten placing in the US, 2006 has already been a good year for Muse. Their headline sets at The Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals in August were hailed by the NME as ‘the gig of the millennium’.
The album was acclaimed throughout the UK press with Q describing it as a work of dazzling scope and grandeur; and The Observer Music Monthly celebrating a "Fantastic record, with almost limitless appeal". Little wonder that Black Holes and Revelations’ was one of the 12 records chosen for this year’s Nationwide Mercury Music Prize shortlist.
As if to underline that assessment, Muse now follow singles, Supermassive Black Hole a monster funk-rock groove and the gloriously melodic, pounding heart pop Starlight, with the seven minutes of operatic rock that is set opener and epic moment from the album, ‘Knights Of Cydonia’ released on November 27th.
Accompanied by a video that manages to cram the best moments of an Eastwood Spaghetti Western, Star Wars, Barbarella and Evil Knievel into one cohesive and massively entertaining piece of film, ‘Knights Of Cydonia’ is classic Muse; compulsive, operatic, expansive rock. Shot by Joseph Kahn (winner of a Grammy for Britney Spears "Toxic" and several MTV VMA’s) in the Californian desert, the UK and Romania, the video is already a word of mouth hit.
