Kid Cudi Puts Out Fourth Solo Album Unannounced
Beyonce and Coldplay already did it, and now rapper Kid Cudi joins the pack of releases put out without an official date.
His fourth solo album, titled Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon, surfaced on iTunes this past Monday. According to the rapper, the concept is about someone who "will come and save the universe from the forces of evil."
Nevertheless, unlike Beyonce and Coldplay, Cudi hinted at the release in past interviews, putting fans in suspense that the album would drop but that he wouldn’t announce the release date.
Satellite follows Indicud, which came out in April 2013. That release was the first outside of his Man in the Moon series and managed to do fairly well on the charts, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard 200. As well, Cudi produced most of the tracks on Indicud.
The rapper plans to continue his Man in the Moon series with its third installment by 2015, and explained to MTV News that Satellite serves as a transition between this upcoming album and last year’s release: "It's like a TV show that ends with that cliffhanger. The album ends that way, where you get that one song and before you know it, the song is over and the album is over, but there's a 'to be continued...' There's more to the story."
What do you think of Kid Cudi’s move? Will this practice start to become standard in the near future?
