Kellie Pickler Sings Her Life on New Album '100 Proof'

Earlier today, Kellie Pickler released her new album '100 Proof,' which according to the singer herself, contains a more accurate reflection of her life than everything she has sang before.

The album is Pickler's third foray into mainstream country music and she has already treated her fans with two of its hit songs, 'Tough' and the title track '100 Proof.'

"Every song lyrically pulls from parts of my life and the production [of the album] is Kellie Pickler all the way," the 25-year old crooner said.

The song that probably depicts her life's events the most is 'Tough,' which she wrote as a letter to her abusive father, who had more than his share of troubles with the law during Pickler's childhood. The letter-turned-song was originally written for personal satisfaction only but she later decided to pack it in her album for everyone to hear.

"We were actually writing an up-tempo song that day and my mindset was just not in it. I could not get into the song we were working on and I just told them 'guys this is just not working. I told them what was going on in my head and we ended up writing the letter. There was no intention for anyone to ever hear it," the American Idol alumni explained.

Pickler's biological mother had left her when she was still an infant and her song 'Mother's Day' covers that aspect of her life. It also wasn't meant to be released but her friends' insistence forced her to take the song to her record company and it was eventually approved for release.

"I needed to write those songs at that particular time in my life for closure," she added.

The disc's title song '100 Proof' is far livelier than the other content. The song is about a good and a bad relationship and Pickler explained it's concept by saying, "It's kind of a twist of whiskey and love in a way. I've been both girls in that song and I'm happy to say I'm the girl in the happy healthy relationship now, and what my husband and I have is '100 Proof.'"
