Kellie Pickler Shaves Head to Support Friend with Cancer
When we go through good times, but especially when we go through hard times, it makes all the difference in the world to have a good friend by your side. While they may not be able to completely understand what you are going through, just having that empathy and shoulder to cry on means so much.
When Kellie Pickler found out that her best friend, Summer Holt Miller, was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 36 years of age, it was a shock. Miller was diagnosed back in June and will start chemotherapy this week.
To show her support, Pickler shaved all of the blonde hair off her head. Miller has also shaved her head so that she doesn’t have to deal with the emotional turmoil that would result from watching her hair slowly fall out.
Pickler said: “Cancer does not discriminate” while Miller added: “If this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it.”
The mother of two asked her doctor for a mammogram when she felt something wasn’t right. She always performed self-exams and, after a tumor was found, she had a double mastectomy last month and will go through chemo to prevent the cancer from returning.
