Kelis Returning With New Album ‘Food’ in 2014
Remember that “Milkshake” song all the way back in 2004? While singer Kelis looked destined for some level of pop stardom at the time, her career went on a different path. Taking more of a dance music direction, she collaborated with artists like Benny Benassi and became what was essentially more of an EDM singer.
However, her last album Flesh Tone came out in 2010, and since that point, she’s fallen off the musical radar. A press release this week show’s she’s planning a return with a new album scheduled for next year.
Titled Food, the album comes out in April 2014 on U.K. indie label Ninja Tune. TV on the Radio’s David Sitek is producing. Sitek previously worked with Wale and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. At one point, Kelis’ Food looked to be released on Sitek’s own Federal Prism label.
In a press statement, the singer said: “I’m really happy to be partnering with Ninja Tune on my new record. This is the album I’ve wanted to make for a long time and I want the team around me to be as excited and energetic about it as I am. I’m also very happy to be working with some of the most creative people in the industry.”
Flesh Tone, released on Interscope, featured moderately successful track “Acapella.”
