Keith Urban's 'American Idol' Appointment Praised By Carrie Underwood
While "American Idol" has produced several excellent country music singers, the show never had a true musician from that genre as a judge until this season. Fox executives added Keith Urban to their jury panel in the offseason and Idol alumnus Carrie Underwood believes it was about time that the country music got one of its true representatives on the show.
In a recent interview with Parade, Underwood, who herself is now an accomplished country singer, expressed her satisfaction with Urban's appointment and said: "I think it's about time [they had a country music star as a judge]."
The 29-year-old further said: "There have been so many country artists to come from the show, so why not get a country-loving judge in the mix? He'll do a great job."
The twelfth season of "American Idol" is scheduled to premiere next year on January 16.
