Keith Urban Expresses Amazement at American Idol Auditions
As a successful performing artist, it must be a really strange experience to see audition after audition when you are used to being among peers who have also had decent careers and who can, at least, carry a tune. They probably only encounter questionable warbling when they are listening to overly enthusiastic fans or enduring the stylings of their friends and family.
New Zealand country singer, Keith Urban, however, is learning that very good talent can sometimes be in the most mundane of circumstances. Now that he has begun his official duties as an American Idol judge, he’s getting to see that there is some real untapped talent in the world which, really, is such a privilege. Most of us will never have an opportunity like that so it’s great that he seems to be embracing it.
Although, he served as a mentor on Australia’s version of The Voice, he seems to be suggestion that viewers should expect a lot from Idol’s upcoming 12th season. When talking to a Chicago radio station, he said: "So far, so good. I've been amazed at the level of talent we've been hearing."
It’s good that he seems upbeat since he’s surely a tired man. Not only does he have his own career but he’s been traveling back and forth to France where his wife, Nicole Kidman, is shooting a movie and, of course, caring for the couples’ two little girls, 4-year-old Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, 21 months. He says that he sleeps whenever he can but doesn’t complain because he has a “dream-filled life.”
For many Idol fans, he’s a dream come true since he is the first country artist to serve as a judge. How does he fit in with Randy Jackson and the potentially feuding divas, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj? "I know how to handle myself. I'll be just fine,” he said. "It's an unpredictable environment."
