Katy Perry Talks "Smurfs 2," Desire to "Transform" Through Acting
Nowadays, it’s not that uncommon to see musicians making the leap from music to acting and some, Justin Timberlake, for example, never seem to want to go back. Considering the fact that Billboard just named Katy Perry “Woman of the Year,” her fans would likely be devastated if she left permanently but she did confess to really enjoying the feeling of becoming someone else.
Perry will be reprising her role as Smurfette in the upcoming, Smurfs 2, which will be released next summer (she gets a female foe, too, which is being voiced by Christina Ricci!) but she also is hoping to sink her teeth into something a little meatier.
She admits that being the “teasing kitten” or “pretty girl” is easy for her but she wants to do something a little more self-deprecating “like a Jerri from Amy Sedaris’ [‘Strangers with Candy’].” Her goal is “to transform.”
Of course, she has a lot of experience becoming characters in her music videos including Kathy Beth Terry, her alter ego in “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” but she also showed up in an episode of Raising Hope this past spring.
The singer described the role or Rikki as having “tight, permed red hair. She was an officer wearing no makeup, with a slight 'stache." Definitely a departure from the typical sleek styles Perry typically adopts. She felt that it was “nice to be able to lose” herself in the acting but is also quick to say that she would only work with certain directors.
Well, at least she seems to know what she wants. Would you like to see more on-screen Katy Perry?
