Katy Perry Says New Music Will Be Darker
At one point, Katy Perry mentioned she would take time off before making another album, but more recent interviews have shown that the singer’s put together a deluxe version of her hit album Teenage Dream and may even record a track with Rihanna. But even with Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection and everything after, Perry’s preparing fans for a darker sound.
Perry first introduced this concept in her interview with Interview, and The Sun today quoted her giving similar statements about future music. She said: “My music is about to get real f****** dark. You’d never see my face because my hair would be in it.”
Prior to that, Perry had mentioned she wants to make music like The Smiths. Can you hear Perry doing a song along the lines of “How Soon Is Now”? Or would a darker sound simply not be a hit with fans?
In the same interviews, Perry touches on her divorce from Russell Brand, hinting that it could shape the theme of future albums or material. She told The Sun: “I’d like to use a time machine and go back to a specific date, please.”
Although she and Brand split less than a year ago, she was recently spotted with model Baptiste Giabiconi.
Regardless of future sounds, The Complete Confection was released on May 26, with “Part of Me” the first single off the deluxe album. This summer, Perry’s concert film Katy Perry: Part of Me comes out July 4.
Perry’s made a career out of making cheeky pop music with the occasional rock edge, but do you think she could go through with such a drastic move?
