Katy Perry and John Mayer Portrait Introduces “Who You Love” Single
At what point does celebrity love look just too tacky? Kanye West and Kim Kardashian took it to a whole new level with the “Bound 2” video, and luckily Katy Perry and John Mayer’s photo shoot, for the cover art of his latest single, doesn’t go that far. But it does clearly get into TMI territory.
On Monday, Mayer revealed the artwork for new single “Who You Love,” his duet with Perry that appears on recent album Paradise Valley. The picture of him and his current girlfriend went up on Tumblr with the following message: "I'm excited to give you the first look at the single artwork for 'Who You Love,' shot by the great Mario Sorrenti. And yes, we look like this at home pretty much all the time."
But the two didn’t just stop there. Perry tweeted her followers to check out the artwork, while Mayer put up an Instagram video of the shoot on his Twitter account. Additionally, Vanity Fair has the rest of the photos on display that didn’t make the cut.
While tacky, this incident doesn’t come near Katy Perry’s recent American Music Awards performance. Taking a page from tasteless cultural appropriation, she sang recent single “Unconditionally” – a track about her relationship with Mayer – in geisha garb, as cherry blossoms were on stage and backup dancers held fans.
