Katy Perry and John Mayer - Is This the Real Deal?

John Mayer does not have the best reputation among the women in Hollywood.  With conquests including Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston, Minka Kelly and even little Taylor Swift, he has more than earned his Playboy image.  For that very reason, people were surprised and even a little concerned to discover that recently single, Katy Perry, has been spending a lot of time with him and, while it was just rumors at first, the pair are becoming more and more open about how much they are actually seeing each other.

What most of us don’t know, however, is that the budding couple have a history.  LOOK magazine is claiming that, on the very day before Perry met her future ex-husband, Russell Brand (at the 2009 MTV VMAs), she actually went on a date with Mayer!  That’s crazy.  Apparently, her friends set her up and they had a great time but then she met Brand, fell head over heels and that was the end of that. 

Maybe they are trying to make it work this second time around?  A source told the mag that Perry and Mayer would “occasionally text each other while she was with Russell" but that doesn’t do much about Mayer’s reputation as a heartbreaker.  Or does it?

Someone close to the situation said: “John has had his eye on Katy for a while and he had to try and convince her that he was right for her. The best way he thought he could do that was by dispelling his past reputation as a lothario to Katy.”

Well, that’s one way to do it!  She also seems to have a good head on her shoulders and even opted to leave Mayer at home recently when she went out to celebrate her brother’s birthday.  If they take it slow, who knows?  It could possibly work!
