Journey to Play at Mitt Romney Fundraiser
There has been a lot of drama between musicians and Republican Presidential hopeful, Mitt Romney, with the majority of the artists requesting (okay, demanding) that their music not be used by the campaign but at least one group seems to have no problem with it – since the price seems to be right.
Arena rock legends, Journey, were offered $500,000 to play at a private fundraiser to support Romney’s efforts and they have reportedly accepted. The concert will take place at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida.
Romney’s position is that America needs to hold on to “liberty, opportunity and free enterprise” and what better way than to have Journey perform “Don’t Stop Believin” as part of their 90-minute set?
The group insist that their performance is not politically motivated but it’s hard to believe that they are short on cash with the renewed interest in their music due to the use of their songs on Glee.
Artists who have been outspoken against the use of their music by Romney’s running mate, Paul Ryan, include Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Twisted Sister.
