Jessica Sanchez Gets Record Deal With Interscope
When it comes to American Idol, second-place finishers either become more successful than the first-place winner (Adam Lambert, Clay Aiken) or disappear into obscurity (Diana Degarmo, Justin Guarini). Last season’s runner-up, Jessica Sanchez, who announced recently that she was signed to Interscope Records, now has to see which direction her career goes.
While first-place finisher Phillip Phillips is already seeing some success on the charts, he and other Idol finalists recently wrapped up the American Idols Live tour, with its last date in New York City last week. On Wednesday, Sanchez was interviewed by iHeart Radio after the performance and then decided to reveal the news. She said: “After the show, I got signed to Interscope Records.”
But, could an album of new material already be in the works? If her Idols Live performances were any indication, Sanchez is likely in the studio. During the tour, she unveiled a new track, titled “Fairytale.” In addition to this, she went through other songs she belted out while a contestant last season, including “Change Nothing.”
Sanchez, however, was not the only artist playing new material and hinting at a potential album. Aside from Phillips, third-place finisher Joshua Ledet and Colton Dixon also introduced listeners to potential new sounds. Ledet, also under contract with Interscope, was additionally signed. Dixon, meanwhile, appears to be working on an album, as well.
While Sanchez just revealed the news and introduced a new tune, there is no official release date for a potential album or any announcement about going into the studio. If you preferred Sanchez to Phillips during the last AI season, what would you like her debut to sound like?
