Jay-Z Suing 40/40 Club Chef for $1.5 Million

Is it really fair to sue a chef for not revitalizing a club? Jay-Z seems to think so. Jay-Z Suing 40/40 Club Chef for $1.5 Million

Jay-Z hasn’t had the best of luck with his 40/40 Club.  Earlier this year, for example, the venue was temporarily shut down due to a health code violation just one day after a hosting a major star-studded event to commemorate the place’s $10 million relaunch.  Can you imagine having been one of those guests and hearing about this?  I would have been terrified of food poisoning!

Apparently, inspectors found that perishables were being kept at dangerously warm temperatures inside of the walk-in refrigerator which was broken. There was also “hot” food just left out on a counter.  More gross, though, was that a worker was spotted mixing salsa with his bare hands – no utensils, no gloves.

Now, there’s another problem on the horizon.  Jay-Z hired Mike Shand, a man who has served as the personal chef to Jay and Beyonce on their concert tours, to revitalize his business and, according to court documents, Shand failed to deliver.  Yes, Hova is suing the man for $1.5 million dollars in which he accuses the chef of failing to “perform on significant aspects” which led the club to underperform.  In fact, Jay and his partner, Juan Perez, even allege that Shand cost the club “lost profits, loss of good will [and] alienation of clientele."

How in the world can he be responsible for all of that?  Is he to blame for the health code violations?

Of course, Shand’s lawyer, Vik Pawar, came to his client’s defense saying: "Mike's a great chef, and it is unclear why 40/40 would contemplate a lawsuit against him," Pawar told the Post. Nevertheless, we will respond accordingly when he gets served with the complaint."
