Jay-Z's Rocawear 'Occupy All Streets' T-Shirts Creates Controversy

Rapper Jay-Z has come under fire for the sale of his 'Occupy All Streets' t-shirts that do not financially benefit the Wall Street movement. Jay-Z's Rocawear 'Occupy All Streets' T-Shirts Creates Controversy

Previously supporting and selling ‘Occupy Wall Street’ T-shirts through his well-known fashion line, Rocawear, rapper Jay-Z has pulled the $22 shirt from his collection, temporarily anyways. According to reports from TMZ, 100 percent of the profits from his online store sales were going right to the mogul’s empire, without donating any the profits to the cause to fight unfair wealth distribution.

Angry and upset over Jay-Z’s t-shirts, an angry unknown source called Grim was quoted as telling TMZ, “Jay-Z, as talented as he is, has the political sensibility of a hood rat and is a scrotum. To attempt to profit off of the first important social moment of 50 years with an overpriced piece of cotton is an insult to the fight for economic civil rights known as #occupywallstreet.”

While most sources are citing that Jay-Z’s representatives have yet to comment on the matter, Business Insider says that Rocawear has issued a statement about the matter.  "Occupy All Streets is our way of reminding people that there is change to be made everywhere, not just on Wall Street. At this time we have not made an official commitment to monetarily support the movement.”

After finding himself among harsh criticism, the rapper was said to have pulled the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ inspired t-shirts from his website.  However, they reappeared once again this past Monday, but are on backorder.

As pointed out by Huffington Post, the 99 Problems singer isn’t the only one accused of making a buck off of the Occupy Wall Street protests.  MTV was said to have been shopping for a cast member who could appear in their reality series Real World with this latest ad.  "MTV's Real World is seeking cast members to tell their unique stories on our show. If you are over the age of 20 and appear to be between the ages of 20-24, and the description below sounds like you, we want to hear from you!  Are you a part of the OCCUPY WALL STREET movement?”

The music network also featured an airing of True Life: I’m Occupying Wall Street.
