Jason Mraz Takes Stand Against Human Trafficking
Let’s just be honest. So much of the news about celebrities is pretty ridiculous and is largely based on drama, rumors and the superficial. It is, therefore, very nice when we come across stories about someone who is trying to make a real difference in the world.
Jason Mraz is taking a stand and raising awareness about human trafficking. He will make history by becoming the first international artist to perform an open-air concert in Myanmar and he hopes to use that attention to expose the realities of the human exploitation that continues to exist in the world.
For his part, Mraz says that the event is “exciting” and that he is going to the country with “an enormous amount of gratitude and respect” and genuinely hopes to make an impact.
The artist first became interested in the campaign after attending the Freedom Awards four years ago and held a similar concert in the Phillippines last year. The facts are, indeed, sobering. It is estimated that about 27 million people in the world are enslaved
The free outdoor concert takes place at People’s Square in Yangon on December 16, 2012 and will include local acts. MTV’s international network will air it sometime in 2013.
