Jason Mraz Goes Acoustic with ‘YES!’
In a recent Radio.com interview, Jason Mraz talked about the approach for his upcoming studio album, titled YES!
The release comes out July 15, and for a preview, song “Love Someone” is already out.
This time around, Mraz went acoustic, getting all-girl band Raining Jane involved in the process. But rather than stick just to guitars, they included cellos and other stringed instruments, sitars, and ukuleles.
Talking about their sound, he said: “Sonically, my backing band on this album are four incredible women. Their approach to music and their voices definitely bring a tenderness and sentiment to this record that some of my records don’t have.”
But although this might be a sonic departure from his past albums, don’t expect it to be a complete change, he went onto say: “The themes on the album are very much the same themes I’ve written about: optimism, hope, love, joy, healing, faith, acceptance, gratitude. This is a conscious decision because I always feel a song should be an affirmation of some kind. It should get you through the present moment and into a more loving or realized future.”
YES! Follows Love is a Four Letter Word, which came out in 2012. The album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and resulted in successful single “I Won’t Give Up.”
