Jason Derulo Chooses "Breathing" as Next Single
Jason Derulo’s sophomore album Future History came out less than a month ago, and on Friday, the singer announced the release’s third single, the DJ Frank E-produced “Breathing.” Following “Don’t Wanna Go Home” and “It Girl,” “Breathing,” according to Derulo in an interview with HollywoodLife.com, has a more personal theme. He said: “It’s a very true story. It’s about two different situations with a girl I was involved with and my cousin who passed away. It has a double meaning.”
The video, directed by Colin Tiley, is presently in production, but the track, which still has no official release date, can still be heard online. Listen to it here:
When Future History came out in late September, it debuted at No. 29 on the Billboard 200, selling only 13,000 its first week – a paltry amount compared to Derulo’s debut. Nevertheless, the first two singles appear to be pulling in the numbers Derulo needs.
In spite of mediocre-at-best sales, Derulo is proud of Future History. He told MTV before its release: " “‘Future History’ is the greatest accomplishment in my life. I've been working on it for the past six months now. It is something that is very special to me. It's an open book on my life. I wasn't afraid to say anything: I just let it all hang out, and I told a story.
"I got a song about a stalker situation, my cousin passing away and missing her. I wasn't trying to hide anything,"
He goes on to add: "It represents where I've come from. It took a long time to get to where I am now. It's been a long journey, a fruitful journey, but it's been a long one, and now is the bridge between where I've come from and where I see myself going in the future. That's why it's called ‘Future History.’"
