Is Florence and the Machine’s Cover of Drake’s ‘Take Care’ better than the Original?

Take Care”- Canadian rapper Drake’s hit song from his latest album of the same name, was recently covered by British band “Florence and the Machine.” Florence Welch- the lead singer of the indie rock band delivered her rendition of the Rihanna-featured song during her live session on BBC program Live Lounge. And according to some people, the cover sounds better than the original song itself.

Welch introduced the song to her live audience by saying: "This is pretty exciting because this is a song by one of my, well two of my, well three of my absolute favorite artists."

Both Welch and Drake are quite fond of each other’s music but they haven’t worked on a music project together yet and there is an explanation for that.

"I've always wanted to do something with Drake. We've always tried to, but we keep both being really busy and nothing's happened. We've always been in different places and the time that we did end up in the studio together we ended up getting quite drunk together and there wasn't a song that came out of it," Welch explained.

In the past, Drake too had revealed that he likes Flo’s music very much and would love to collaborate with her in the future.

"Me and Flo met the night after the VMAs, she came to the studio and we just clicked right away. On any other evening me and Florence can get in the studio and do something incredible and we will. We listened to all her new music and I picked which song I really want to get on," the "Headlines" rapper said.

Welch’s cover has impressed the listeners and critics a great deal. In her review of the cover, The Huffington Post’s Amy Lee wrote: "Florence sounds natural on the soulful, mournful track, with an added layer of epic provided by the band. In fact, 'Take Care' almost sounds more like a Florence and The Machine track then a Drake one."

Billboard’s David Greenwald also liked Welch’s “Take Care” and said that it is an "impassioned chamber-rock take."
