Insane Clown Posse and Jack White Record… Mozart?
Jack White’s a musical chameleon. While he spent a few years doing a stripped down sound with the White Stripes and later beefed it up with the Raconteurs, he’s recently decided to participate in recording a collection of unfinished Hank Williams songs – and to produce fellow Detroit act Insane Clown Posse doing Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Yes, you read that right. According to a press release from White’s Third Man Records, ICP recorded a track based on a lost piece of music titled “Leck Mich Im Arsch” (translated to “Lick Me in the Arse”) by Mozart; White produced it, and Jeff the Brotherhood provides the non-operatic music.
Available in 7-inch and digital versions on September 13, “Leck Mich Im Arsch” will also be sold as a limited edition tricolor single, with only 100 copies, from Third Man’s Brooklyn, Mich., store on September 17. For all versions, the track will be accompanied by B-side “Mountain Girls.”
Even with White producing, “Leck Mich” sounds too basic, too unfinished, as if ICP came into the studio and goofed around over some Mozart sample lying around. Then, a guitar track was added later. Aside from working with Jack White, ICP spent the earlier part of this past month doing their annual Gathering of the Juggalos. This year, the event included acts like Ice Cube, Busta Rhymes, George Clinton, and Vanilla Ice. Charlie Sheen, Dustin Diamond, and Flavor Flav – the last two as hosts – were also present. While the event, now in its 12th year, has been given bad press, ICP’s Violent J’s statement about bringing Charlie Sheen on board just about sums the concert up: “Why is Charlie Sheen at the Gathering? We have a theory: Whenever an artist is picked on by the mainstream, Juggalos are more apt to be supportive of them. Everybody’s pointing a finger at Charlie Sheen, dissing his lifestyle, tearing him up, making fun of everything he says, making him into a freak show. That’s what we are. Everything we do is misunderstood or misconstrued or picked on or f—ed with. Everybody says how s—-y we are and how horrible our music is and how lame we are, and we turn around get all the love in the world. The Juggalo love is a hundred times more powerful — a thousand times more powerful! — than a mainstream fan’s love.”
