Iggy Azalea Goes “Fancy” on New Single
Buzz about Australian rapper/model Iggy Azalea has gone around for close to three years, ever since she put out a mixtape in 2011. As of recent, an official debut album called The New Classic was announced, and to get the promotion rolling, the rapper born Amethyst Amelia Kelly put out new single “Fancy.”
Azalea officially revealed the news with an Instagram shot of the single’s cover – a hand-drawn image of what appears to be herself. She captioned it with: “so this is happening sometime late next week.”
What’s new this time is who Azalea’s collaborating with – Charli XCX. For those unfamiliar with the name, Charli XCX was behind Icona Pop’s hit “I Love It.”
For an artist that has done decently on the U.K. Singles chart, but has only gotten close to the top of the Bubbling Under Hot 100 in the U.S., “Fancy” may be a chance for Azalea to finally have a bona fide hit in the States.
Since her mixtape in 2011, the rapper has been signed to Mercury and Island Def Jam, both of which will be releasing The New Classic.
Azalea’s rise to fame has included being the first female, non-American rapper in XXL’s “Top 10 Freshmen” cover.
Since 2012, Azalea has put out an EP titled Glory and another mixtape called TrapGold, a collaboration with producer Diplo. Singles have included hit “Work,” “Bounce,” and “Change Your Life.”
