Iggy and the Stooges Release New Single “Burn” in Preparation for Upcoming Album
In preparation for their upcoming album, Ready to Die, Iggy and the Stooges released a new single, a track titled “Burn.” Ready to Die is a follow-up to the band’s 2007 effort, The Weirdness. If you haven’t heard “Burn,” listen to it here.
What’s different for “Burn” and its album is the return of guitarist James Williamson, who hasn’t played with the group since 1973 and hasn’t done a professional performance since the late 1970s. Williamson returned in 2009 for Raw Power and began sending Iggy Pop riffs in 2010. He recorded in San Francisco, while the vocalist laid down his tracks in Miami. The album comes out on Fat Possum Records on April 30.
Speaking about why the Stooges decided to put together Ready to Die, Pop said to the press: "My motivation in making any record with the group at this point is no longer personal. It's just a pig-headed f**king thing I have that a real f**king group when they're an older group they also make f**king records.
"They don't just go and twiddle around on stage to make a bunch of f**king money."
Aside from this album, this isn’t the only project Pop has been involved in over the past few years. More prominently, he collaborated with pop star Ke$ha on her sophomore effort Warrior, while earlier in 2012, Apres, a collection of French-inspired covers, came out through his personal website instead of label Virgin EMI.
