"I Know U Like Me" Video Review
Their flirty debut single, I KNOW U LIKE ME is guaranteed to become this year’s biggest playground anthem. Released by EMI/LIBERTY Records on October 30th, the infectious track with its catchy call and response hook is set to have kids across the country adopting it as a signatory tune for their own flirtatious antics.
Mr. SKILLZ, a producer, rapper and music industry mastermind first tasted international success in 2002 after conceiving and launching Big Brovaz – the six-piece urban group that went on to win 3 MOBOs while enjoying major chart success with hits such as Nu Flow, Favourite Things and Baby Boy.
After writing and producing their debut album and steering them to fame and fortune, creative differences started to set in; “I like pop songs that you can sing along to,” explains Mr SKILLZ, “but the band members saw themselves as too street and ended up going down a road I didn't agree with” and as a consequence, while at their peak, he stepped away from the group and began to concentrate on his solo career.
Initially taking some time out, Mr SKILLZ went home to his native Nigeria and set about recording an album of African music which in turn, lead to him winning Best African Group of The Year at the highly acclaimed Kora ALL Africa Music Awards – South Africa’s equivalent of the Brits - and then to performing at the launch of MTV Base Africa in Nigeria.
But now he’s back in the UK. And for his latest project, Mr SKILLZ has teamed up with the CRAZY GIRLS – a London-based all-girl group who he clicked with immediately following a writing session at the end of last year.
The CRAZY GIRLS are made up of EMMA, the girliest of the band; SAM, the ‘ghetto fabulous’ diva; MERISSA, the innocent little princess and MONTANA who is definitely the life and soul of any party!
The main man himself is a self-confessed joker and regularly plays practical jokes on unsuspecting people in the studio. He’s fun, energetic and full of positivity – elements that really shine through in his music.
MR SKILLZ AND HIS CRAZY GIRLS have spent this year locked in the studio, writing and recording tracks. “We don’t take ourselves too seriously. Our music is pure sing-along fun but not in a cheesy kind of way!” says EMMA.
I KNOW U LIKE ME is the perfect example of what’s to come – their sound is current, fresh and edgy and flies the flag for true urban pop. “I just can’t wait to hear kids singing it on the bus,” adds Mr SKILLZ.
